Cloister and Church San Pedro Claver
This church was named for the first saint to be canonized in the new world. Saint Pedro claver was a Spanish nobleman and priest from verdu, Catalonya in Spain, who lived and died in this convent. Claver dedicated his life to helping African slave ships with food, medicine and soothing words. His remains lie a glass coffin embedded in an altar in the church.
Backdrop of events and cultural gatherings, this magnificent plaza diffuses a golden light around the doves in the late afternoon where people gather to feed them.
On the second floor, a testimony of the African and Caribbean cultures has an echo in the African Caribbean Museum.
